Kremlin (RussianКремль) is the Russian word for "fortress", "citadel" or "castle" 
and refers to any major fortified central complex found in historic Russian cities.
This word is often used to refer to the best-known one, the Moscow Kremlin, or metonymically to the government that is based there.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Могила Неизвестного Солдата in Russian, or Mogila Neizvestnova Soldata) is a war memorial,
dedicated to the Soviet soldiers killed during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. It is located at the Kremlin Wall in the Alexander Garden in Moscow.
Soviet Union lost around 27 million people during the war, almost half of all World War II deaths.
The remains of the unknown soldiers, killed in the Battle of Moscow in 1941 and initially buried in a mass grave
at the 41st km of the Leningrad highway, were relocated to the Kremlin Wall in December of 1966
(25th anniversary of the battle). The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was unveiled on May 8, 1967.

To the right of the tomb of the unknown soldier, there is a granite alley made of porphyry plates
with encapsulated soils from the Hero Cities*) Leningrad, Kiev, Minsk, Stalingrad, Sevastopol, Odessa,
Kerch, Novorossiysk, Brest Fortress, Tula, Murmansk and Smolensk.

*) Hero City is a Soviet honorary title awarded for outstanding heroism during the Great Patriotic War (World War II) of 1941 to 1945. 
It was awarded to twelve cities of the Soviet Union. According to the statute, the hero city is issued the Order of Lenin, the Gold Star medal, 
and the certificate of the heroic deed (gramota) from the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.



The grotto. Designed by Osip Bove.
The Grotto was built using remains of buildings that were destroyed during the Napoleonic occupation of Moscow. 
It was erected on an artificial elevation and adorned with fragments of white-stone ornaments
from dismantled structures. On the outer platforms of the grotto orchestra used to play on public holidays.

The Obelisk.
Originally erected to celebrate 300 years of Romanov dynasty but 5 years later converted by bolsheviks into a monument of the Revolution.
They couldn't even put up their own obelisk, could they.

The multi-story section was finished at the end of the 17th century.
The five-pointed ruby star has been installed in 1937.
The height of the tower is 80 meters.
Vladimir I. Lenin arrived n the March 12, 1918 through the Troitskiy Gate into the Kremlin.
